Chief Financial Officer - Rex Whaley

Rex Whaley

Rex Whaley was named DEQ’s Chief Financial Officer in June 2013.  He directs the accounting, budgeting, purchasing, and property management functions of the department.

Whaley has more than 30 years of experience in state government and has held a variety of financial positions.  He started his career as an Internal Auditor, and later served in roles as Budget Director, Assistant Controller, Financial Services Officer, and currently as Chief Financial Officer.

Whaley earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from East Carolina University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
